In this paper the issue of the complex relationship between psychoanalysis and democracy is discussed from the standpoint of the problems that led to the dissolution of the EFP (Ecole française de psychanalyse), particularly those concerning the impasses generated by the 'passe'. Issues observed in the association among psychoanalysts in terms of 'voluntary servitude' - as the one referring to the curious submission to the Master - are properly focused.
