Abstract

PEREIRA, Claudia Rodrigues. The construction of contemporary subjectivity and its relation to depression. Cad. psicanal. [online]. 2015, vol.37, n.32, pp. 17-41. ISSN 1413-6295.

The article highlights the subjective transformations that are closely related to the increase of contemporary forms of depression. We start by referring to readings that, first, focus on the decline of the normative power of great narratives that once served as moral guidance for the construction of modern subjectivity and, second, that give prominence to the changes in the relation between the individual and his body and self-care, assuming those changes as essential elements in the formation of current psychological antinomies. Such changes are associated with the shift from modern man to post-modern man, whose satisfaction is extremely oriented to pleasure and sensorial stimuli at the expense of sentimental refinement.

Keywords : Depression; dysthymia; contemporary subjectivity; somatic culture.
