Abstract

DAUER, Érika Teles  and  MARTINS, Karla Patrícia Holanda. Maternal neglect and alimentary refusals in infancy. Cad. psicanal. [online]. 2015, vol.37, n.32, pp. 43-60. ISSN 1413-6295.

As it relates to psychoanalytic understanding, infant nutrition is pervaded by the webs of the primitive relationship between the child and his or her primary caregiver, thus reflecting specific types of maternal-infant bonding. This article introduces an investigation into the role of food in the genesis of the infant psychic constitution, based on situations where the symptom of alimentary refusal is established. This theoretical and clinical study was conducted in conjunction with a psychoanalytic intervention with malnourished children under the care of a non-governmental organization (NGO). This study intends to identify the relationships between infant alimentary refusals, the various forms of maternal angst, and their modes of identification.

Keywords : Alimentary refusal; mother-infant relationship; identification; narcissism; angst.
