This article aims at examining how, since Freud, the notion of psychic heritage interposes itself to psychoanalytic theory, by providing subsidies for reflections on the constitution of the subject in its articulation with the inherited and the hindrances deriving from that. The first part outlines Freud’s originality in introducing the theme in his work, relating it to the formation of symptoms, to the formation of the self and to culture. The second part indicates the current developments of the concept of psychic heritage, highlighting that the psychic transmission may have a subjectivating character and a non-structuring character.
