Abstract

LOPES, Cláudia Mazur. An investigation into bulimia and anorexia symptoms in social networking. Cad. psicanal. [online]. 2015, vol.37, n.32, pp. 105-116. ISSN 1413-6295.

Eating disorders have been occupying the current psychopathological scene, denying body limits and revealing discomfort in present times. Once these symptoms are established, fear of not being able to get them under control starts to arise. Body shape has turned into a privileged scenario for the engenderment of singularities. Based on the analysis of some closed Facebook groups that include people bearing anorexia and bulimia, this article aims at studying these people choices. Why joining such a group? What are they looking for? In order to answer these questions, social networks are investigated, once, supposedly, they are the typical context for a substantial level of interactions - as in the case of pro-bulimia and pro-anorexia communities - that result in new perspectives on social bonding.

Keywords : Bulimia; anorexia; social networks; body.
