Abstract

COSTA, Carlos Alberto Ribeiro. The metapsychology of self-punishment: revisiting the 'criminals from a sense of guilt'. Cad. psicanal. [online]. 2015, vol.37, n.33, pp. 85-104. ISSN 1413-6295.

This article aims to comprise, from theoretical-clinical methodology, some metapsychological factors - parameters concerning to economy, dynamics and topology of the psychic apparatus - involved in 'self-punishment's' phenomena. In order to meet that goal, it is proposed, here, to return to the matter of Freudian's 'criminals from a sense of guilt', interface point between psychoanalysis and criminology. If, classically, self-punishment in these 'crimes' is considered through Oedipus, this text prioritizes its reinterpretation according to Freud's second topic, the concepts of superego and the death drive, as well as Lacanian notions. Finally, it will be explicit, two alternative routes to the paradigm of "criminals from a sense of guilt."

Keywords : Self-punishment; Sense of guilt; Crime.
