Abstract

PALERMO, Fernanda Ribeiro; MAGALHAES, Andrea Seixas; FERES-CARNEIRO, Terezinha  and  MACHADO, Rebeca Nonato. The conjugal environment: repercussions on parenthood. Cad. psicanal. [online]. 2016, vol.38, n.34, pp. 129-148. ISSN 1413-6295.

In this paper we discuss the notion of the parents' conjugal environment as part of the facilitating environment of the child's maturation process, considering that parental conjugality affects the psychic integration process of the subject. Therefore, we address the concept of environment in Winnicottian literature, highlighting the components of adaptability and of human quality. We stress that the conflicts experienced within conjugal life are reflected in the construction of the conjugal transitional space, which reveals the individual psychic flaws of each of the partners. We conclude that a psychically precarious conjugality from a psychic standpoint reflects on parenthood, thus interfering in the construction of the meaning of the child's own existence.

Keywords : Conjugality; Parenthood; Environment; Psychic integration.
