Abstract

SOUTO, Jailma Belarmino et al. The ways of transsexuality in the light of psychoanalysis. Cad. psicanal. [online]. 2016, vol.38, n.34, pp. 187-206. ISSN 1413-6295.

This paper aims to analyze the case of a transsexual woman who acts as protagonist in the film "Transamerica", as far as the theoretical assumptions of psychoanalysis are concerned. The study includes considerations about some concepts that permeate the world of transsexuals, often justified by identity and gender practices, but also from the perspective of medicine. Through the unconscious concept, psychoanalysis is known to scatter the notion of normal and pathological, and its consequences can be discussed in the field of transsexuality. This is a phenomenon responsible for the emergence of relevant questions about the notions of identity, normality and pathology in society.

Keywords : Transsexuality; Psychoanalysis; Clinical structures; Subjectivity.
