Abstract

MACHADO, Letícia Vier  and  AGUIAR, Fernando. Efficacy and therapeutic effects in psychoanalysis: an analysis of the French episode. Cad. psicanal. [online]. 2016, vol.38, n.34, pp. 207-229. ISSN 1413-6295.

Although the problem of therapeutic efficacy in psychoanalysis has already been a concern to Freud, it gained new contours in France in the last decade due to political, economic and social pressures. The presentation of therapeutic results became necessary to justify its permanence in the polis. Under a theoretical approach, this paper focuses on three perspectives of analysis: it reexamines the impasses of the efficacy evaluation from the standpoint of the clinical case in psychoanalysis; it recalls Freud's recommendation for abandoning therapeutic ambition, thus establishing the analyst's abstinence as a principle of psychoanalysis, and presents an applied psychoanalysis device, developed in France, to respond to the demand of producing therapeutic effects.

Keywords : Therapeutic efficacy; Evaluation; Applied psychoanalysis; France.
