Abstract

ASSEMANY, Nancy Mendonça. Childhood overstimulation: a contemporary issue. Cad. psicanal. [online]. 2016, vol.38, n.34, pp. 231-243. ISSN 1413-6295.

The aim of this article is to discuss childhood from the perspective of actions oriented to children development in contemporaneity. When discussing this subject, context and culture in which the phenomenon occurs have to be taken into account. In order to facilitate understanding, the article will focus childhood as a historical category and its appropriation as a psychoanalytic category. The clinical follow up of families with children has led us to question the current situation of over stimulating childhood, where there is pressure for children to respond as early as possible to external demands aiming at their development. The reading and analysis of publications, books and current discussions on childhood development in contemporary families were the bases for the elaboration of the issues examined in this article.

Keywords : Childhood; Overstimulation; Abandonment; Technology; Shortened childhood; Contemporaneity.
