Abstract

This paper intends to discuss the concept of trauma as an excessive amount of excitement drive, taking for reference the clinical practice in identity and narcissistic suffering. The main goal is to analyze the possibilities of psychic inscriptions in relation to the temporality of the trauma, since both of them have significant particularities. In this perspective, the access to symbolic representation is not the only possible and desirable attainable psychic function, and what cannot be represented can remain as a elaboration potential of the traumatic event from the encounter with otherness, and not only as a compulsion to repeat.
