Abstract

GONDAR, Jô. Terror, terrorism and recognition. Cad. psicanal. [online]. 2016, vol.38, n.35, pp. 129-141. ISSN 1413-6295.

In this paper I intend to discuss the notions of terror and terrorism from a psychoanalytical perspective. With Freud, we can question the idea of splitting the world: they and we, reason and brutal violence, barbarians and civilized. In this way, we can escape from the clichés and from the presupposition of a hierarchy of cultures and ways of being. With Ferenczi, we can notice that what terrifies someone is not physical violence in itself, but the fact that his suffering may not be recognized. An articulation of Ferenczi's and philosopher Axel Honneth's ideas allow us to understand denial as a political and social problem, which the Tunisian psychoanalyst Fethi Benslama associates to the martyrs industry of jihadism.

Keywords : Terror; Terrorism; Denial; Recognition; Radical islamism.
