Abstract

GARCIA, Cláudia Amorim. On destructiveness: the negative and the destruction drive. Cad. psicanal. [online]. 2021, vol.43, n.44, pp. 49-59. ISSN 1413-6295.

This article consists in a discussion about the relationship between the work of the negative and the death drive according to André Green. It is based on the assumption that the object reveals the drive which characterizes the greenian thought and it is present also in the critique of the spontaneous and biologic nature of the Freudian death drive as well as in formulation of the destructive drive that needs to be stimulated by the object to occur. The relationship between the death drive and the work of the negative depends on the concept of negative narcissism representative of the disruptive work of the negative which is the utmost expression of the death drive, according to André Green.

Keywords : Death drive; Work of the negative; Negative narcissism; Negative hallucination.
