Abstract

VIANNA, Rosane de L. S.. Youth culture at FEBEM. Imaginario [online]. 2005, vol.11, n.11, pp. 277-316. ISSN 1413-666X.

In this article, young people who are in custody at a juvenile detention center - Foundation for the Well-Being of Minors (FEBEM) - tell us about their universe through music and art (rap, break, and graffiti). They tell about the life in periphery, where they try to identify themselves with youth culture constituted by styles, esthetics and consume. Through rap lyrics, they show life problems, lack of liberty, reaction and acceptance in relation to this control over themselves, their movements, feelings and personal style. Through their own language, they show their ways of life and their reality, resisting the segregation and including themselves in a form of communication with persons of the same age, who live outside the FEBEM

Keywords : Identity; Youth culture; Imaginary.
