Abstract

VECCHIA, Talita; BARROS, Denise Dias  and  SATO, Miki. Young People of Pedra do Papagaio: reports of a photography workshop - Projeto Casa Rosa. Imaginario [online]. 2005, vol.11, n.11, pp. 337-362. ISSN 1413-666X.

This article describes the experience in a photography workshop, in which the participants were the young people of a rural neighborhood called Pedra do Papagaio, in Aiuruoca, MG. The project initiative was developed by Núcleo Interdisciplinar do Imaginário e Memória - NIME of University of São Paulo - USP and Projeto Casa Rosa (Associação Bem Comum). The main objective was to get in touch with the photography universe in order to stimulate a new look at places and close relations, and develop a form of expression, generating discussions and reflections about the place, where they live. Four adolescents, who had taken part in Projeto Casa Rosa activities, were invited to participate in this study. In the first meeting, they had explanations about the project, and, for a week, they kept a photographic camera. After the photos developing, they are analyzed by the group, and the themes emerged were: nature and main tourism places, forms of sociability, experiences between countryside and city. The photography established a language, an important tool for developing the feeling of belonging and discussions, bringing the adolescents close to polemic themes.
