Abstract

LEHMAN, Yvette Piha; UVALDO, Maria da Conceição Coropos  and  SILVA, Fabiano Fonseca da. The young and the work world: therapeutics consultants and vocational counseling. Imaginario [online]. 2006, vol.12, n.12, pp. 81-96. ISSN 1413-666X.

The changes in labor market and their consequences for education have expanded the public seen in the Vocational Counseling Center in the Institute of Psychology in USP, creating the necessity of new modalities and strategies for helping and advising this public. This paper describes an experience developed in a course which prepares students, who belong to lower classes, for attending college. Considering that Vocational Counseling can constitute as “holding” or even a sheltered space not only for the psycho-development crisis of youth, but also to understand the current moment concerning the labor market changes. It was used the Winnicott’s model of “therapeutic consultation”, which was adapted for advising a group instead of presenting informative lectures. The participants’ evaluation shows that this model is adequate for offering a place to share their worries, which is important for students, who live in competitive environment like the preparatory course for college, and also for rescuing the group space as a possibility of creating personal and collective projects.
