Abstract

CAMPOS, Keli Cristina de Lara  and  FREITAS, Fernanda Andrade de. Employability: construction of a scale. PsicoUSF [online]. 2008, vol.13, n.2, pp. 189-201. ISSN 1413-8271.

The expression employability refers to competences, skills/abilities and general attitudes that a person is expected to have in order to gain and keep an employment. This study had the purpose of constructing and validating an employability scale designed to evaluate factors related to a positive result in the search of an employment. The sample comprised 628 university students, both male and female, attending administrative, engineering and psychology courses in public and private institutions from São Paulo state. The instrument had initially 88 items referring to 11 factors/variables, applied collectively in Likert scale of four-point, in which the descriptors were "surely yes", "I believe so", "I believe not" and "surely not". The statistical analyses allowed the redefinition of the scale obtaining 57 items arranged in four factors/variables: efficacy of search; difficulty of search; optimism; responsibility and decision. The statistical coefficients were sufficient to confirm the trustworthiness of the scale and to recommend it for future researches.

Keywords : Employability; Organizational psychology; Psychological evaluation.
