Abstract

This research intended to discuss the questions relating to the teacher competence to teach, from a set of knowledge related to the teacher‘s job. 36 primary school teachers of the first and second grade took part in this study. These teachers were from 7 municipal schools of a city in the interior of Paraná. Most of them (72,22%) have done only the Magistério and 36,11% have a little professional experience. A scale of self-evaluation of the teaching competence of the participants was used. The referred scale is composed by 72 items - abilities for the teacher‘s job - was developed by the researcher. The teachers should choose among 5 judgement from the scale. The judgement was: nothing, more or less, a lot, too much. The results, from the analysis of average and percentages, indicated that the population studied, assessed themselves as competent and with abilities in teaching.
