Abstract

ROCHA, Kátia Bones  and  SARRIERA, Jorge Castellá. Perceived health of professors at private universities: gender, religion and work conditions. Psicol. esc. educ. [online]. 2006, vol.10, n.2, pp. 187-196. ISSN 1413-8557.

This research is looking into the way professors of private universities see their health. It was used the Goldberg’s General Health Questionnaire (QGS- 60) and a form with biodemographic data that investigated individual variables related to the labor activity. These instruments were used to study the conditions of 161 professors chosen from different areas of study. It was used descriptive and correlational statistics for the data analysis. The study’s results showed that the professors didn’t see any change in their general health; in fact, it is neither better nor worse according to their opinion. And the results also showed that there are some different variables such as sex, religion, work environment and prolonged work hours influencing the professors’ perception of their own health.

Keywords : University professors; Gender; Work environment.
