Resumen

DUARTE, Vera Cabrera. Interpersonal relationships: teacher and student on stage. Psicol. educ. [online]. 2004, n.19, pp. 119-142. ISSN 1414-6975.

This article is a discussion and a reflection upon an experience in a course called Reflexão sobre a Acão: o professor de Inglês aprendendo e ensinando (Reflection upon Action: the teacher of English as a learner and as a teacher), offered to teachers of English as a foreign language at public schools in São Paulo. The course is part of a program designed for the development of the teachers and I work in it as a teacher and as a researcher. In this paper I will point out the importance of an adequate emotional climate in a classroom situation through the implementation of Facilitating Attitudes so as to promote what Carl Rogers denominated Significant Learning. The relevance of the Affective Component as an essential element to promote the improvement of the interpersonal relationships among students and teachers in a classroom situation, especially in public schools, will be discussed.

Palabras clave : Significant learning; Facilitating attitudes; Affective component; Public schools..
