Abstract

LOBATO, Vivian da Silva  and  PLACCO, Vera Maria Nigro de Souza. Teachers' conceptions on questions related to school violence. Psicol. educ. [online]. 2007, n.24, pp. 73-90. ISSN 1414-6975.

This present work shows the results of a research on School Violence carried out with 16 teachers (fifth through eighth grade) at the Belém-Pará Municipal School System, working in Mosqueiro district. Data gathering occurred in two moments: First, using semi-structured individual interviews. For the second part of the data gathering, there were two seminars with the teachers who had participated in the individual interviews. The data was grouped and analyzed according to categories. This way, we came to four categories: Types/Nuances of Violence, Causes/Origin of Violence, Forms of Confrontation, and Interferences in the Teaching-Learning Process. These conceptions point to violent occurrences in school as one of the biggest challenges facing the work of educators

Keywords : school violence; teachers' conceptions; interpersonal relations.
