Students use different learning strategies. The aim of the present study was to identify the main learning strategies used by Brazilian students of Spanish. Thirty-two Brazilian students answered the Oxford Strategy Inventory for Language Learning. The questionnaire consists of a five-point Likert scale designed to identify strategies used in the acquisition of foreign language by students in formal settings. Metacognitive strategies were the most employed (mean: 3.733). There was no association between age and strategies. Females had higher mean values regarding cognitive and metacognitive strategies, postgraduate students prefered affective strategies. It was concluded that students at advanced levels of Spanish-language learning employed different learning strategies based on socio-demographic characteristics.

Keywords : learning strategies; bilingualism; Spanish language.
