The educational managers deal with several demands inside the schools on a daily basis, demands that, in most cases, are related to the teachers. the aim of this study was identify the social representations built by these managers in what concerns the teachers. 5 educational managers of public schools of mossoró (rn/brazil) took part in this study, answering an interview carried out with each one of them individually. the stimulus-phrase was being a teacher nowadays. the transcribed content was analyzed with the help of the program iramuteq. a hierarchical descending analysis was carried out, what resulted in four classes: lack of prestige, socio-educational demands, relationship teacher x student x family and pedagogical competences. being a teacher nowadays is to experience a context with several demands, demanding a professional with a broad education and favourable working conditions. the teacher is related to the "air that society breathes", when we think about the complex role they have to perform. the representation of the teacher moves away from the traditional paradigm, approximating them to the emerging paradigm that suggests a new professional, in permanent education to meet the current educational policies.
