This article is based partly of the theoretical body of the dissertation of Mestrado presented to the course of Masters degree in Administration of Santa Catarina's Federal University about the evolution of the work concept through the history and its perception for the workers at this moment. They are detached the different work concepts and examined the different historical moments with its contexts and specific relationships of work. It is still tried to analyze the subject of the meaning of the work, emphasizing its role of filling the human psychological needs, besides providing its subsistence, looking for a reflection on the practice of the Professional Orientation inserted in this context.
