The objective of this paper is to present how the teaching of the subject “Vocational Guidance” from the psychology course at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica - Minas Gerais is processed and organized. We’ll explain the difficulty we have found teaching the basis of the subject, the factors that intervene at the beginning and during the teaching of the same; the leadership dynamics of theoretical contents and the processing of the experiences lived during the learning period, specially during the “internship of professional vocational counseling”. We aim to reach the objective of creating a debate among University teachers of Professional/Vocational Counseling, we will discuss the social commitment involved in counseling work, as well as the importance and ethical seriousness that implicit in counseling. The Vocational Counseling course we give uses as methodological theoretical reference the operational-clinical method describes by Marina Muller. Through this methodology we intend to show our students professional/vocational counseling as a way of short psychological intervention focuses on the conflict of the election of profession, that has a determined methodology and requires, specific preparation, just the same. We will describe the initial difficulties in conducting the subject, that greatly comes from a former training that was specially oriented towards a clinical/psychoanalytical point of view of the functional dynamics of the human psychics. We will also show the lack of a previous subject tied in with organizational psychology, that presents the human being as a productive being and talks about human work and the bonds that the subject establishes. We will present conclusions found from the inquiry we elaborates and submitted to 263 students of PUC/Minas and “Faculdades Integradas Newton Paiva”, in reference to the subject professional/vocational counseling. We will show the ideas of these students in relation to matters as: interest in subject itself, in the internship, in follow up studies or vocational counseling after finishing the curricular subject and about the applicability of the contents studied in the professional/vocational counseling course in the future professional life.
