The author outlines present macrosocial, cultural and economic changes, their impact in education and labor and their influence in personalities of people living in big urban districts. In this context, new demands emerge for the updating of counselors in their different working areas (education, clinics, labor, special needs, or continuous). The author refers to several present experiences of counselors’ updating, examinining strategies and practices to rebuild the vocational counselor’s role.
