Starting from a brief contextualization of the study of emotions, the present paper aims at indicating ways to the construction of a more appropriate frame of reference for such study, regarding emotions as constituents of the subjective process and pointing to their potential for epistemological change in psychology. From the analysis of important world views in contemporary thought and the epistemological denunciation promoted by emotions, the text tries to emphasize their marginal condition in psychological knowledge and both the need for and the implications of their inclusion as crucial for the study of the human condition.
