The objective of this article consists of presenting empiric data about the insertion of psychologists in hospitals located in Florianópolis and its surroundings, relating these data to other regional surveys. A data survey has been performed in order to describe the socialdemographic characteristics and the professional formation as well as the professional activities of all psychologists who work in the hospitals of Florianópolis and its surroundings. It has been observed that the majority of socialdemographic data about the professional formation and the patterns of performance obtained in Florianópolis and its surroundings are approximated the same as those observed in Curitiba, Federal District and Natal. As a conclusion, the challenge of psychologists in Florianópolis and its surroundings and also from other States in Brazil still consists of increasing the number of professionals and places of performance, besides consolidating the pattern of integral attention to health.
