This paper aims to discuss the implementation and the operation of a specialized assistance service whose goal is to connect the patient who has the HIV/Sida virus to the multiprofessional staff through the description of a professional experience. This was achieved by the SAE establishment, with the set up of an assistance policy that has the welfare, the humanitarian aspect and the quality of life of the infected person as goals. The establishment of SAE allowed the resolution, the equality and the integrality of the services in the town of Cabedelo, as well as the enlargement of the attendance process, according to the SUS institutional policy in Brazil, even if political, economical and structural difficulties had to be overcome. Cabedelo has 47.076 inhabitants, with 86 cases of Sida, which were notified from June/85 to February/05. It's an urban town, with a harbor, and it is a truck driver's route, with a high level of prostitution.
