The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the professional inclinations (carreer references) and the attitudes towards the professional carreer in university students, in a context of a labor world in transformation. The students were from different courses, both male and female, from a private university of São Paulo. Carreer references were evaluated with an inventary of professional inclinations, that informs with precision and factorial validity the inclinations to intrapreneurship, autonomy, freedom, altruism and establishment and maintenance of life style. A questionnaire that informed about the reasons for choice, satisfaction and commitment to the effective actions towards the professional carreer. Results indicated that the professional inclinations are associated to different attitudes towards carreer, leading to the conclusion that different kinds of representations about the role of the profession in life has direct influence on the process of professional identity development of the students.
