Abstract

GALLEGOS, Miguel. The first Latin American Conference on Training In Psychology (1974):: The Latin-American model and its historical significanc. Psicol. cienc. prof. [online]. 2010, vol.30, n.4, pp. 792-809. ISSN 1414-9893.

In 1974 took place the First Latin American Conference on Training in Psychology in Bogotá (Colombia). That Conference gave origin to a series of recommendations on academic and professional training in Psychology that, over the time, had a great impact on the curricular guidelines of psychologist’s training programs in several Latin American countries. The purpose of the present article is to highlight the historical meaning of what was called “The Bogotá Model” or “The Latin American Model” for academic education and professional training in Psychology. For this work, it has been consulted primary documentary sources. It also includes a brief extract of an interview made to Rubén Ardila, the organizer of the First Latin American Conference on Training in Psychology at Bogotá. Based on the literature review, the present work argues that the “The Latin American Model for training in Psychology” is still in force. Some future work patterns are also raised.
