CAMPOS, Érico Bruno Viana. Affect and representation in the origins of metapsychology: a reading of Freud's “Project for a scientific psychology”. Psyche (Sao Paulo) [online]. 2004, vol.8, n.14, pp. 39-60. ISSN 1415-1138.

This paper presents the theoretical architecture of Freud's Project for a Scientific Psychology (1895) and analyses its concepts of representation and affect. These seem to be precursors of the conceptual net expounded in the second and last formulations of Freud work, where the economic point of view is prominent. We focus especially on the notion of topographical and formal regression as expressed in the theory of anxiety and discuss the distinctive mnemonic registers and the ambiguity of the concept of affect. We point to the problem of bringing to terms the structure and energetic intensity as a constitutive factor of subjectivity. We also tried to relate the notion of “thing” (Das Ding) to the genesis of ego through identification.
