This article was stimulated by Eric Santner's book, Scherber private Germany: a secret story of modernity. Santner established some relations between paranoid functioning and some characteristics of authority in Modernity, I discuss Schreber's paranoia from three dimensions. We present historical data about Schreber's family. Then we briefly present some psychoanalytic formulations about paranoia: from Freud to contemporary authors. At last, we try to confront Santner's thesis with our own comprehension of the relations between psychoanalysis and Modernity. Both in the Modernity and in the psychoanalytic points of view, we consider the effects of intromission experiences in the lack of a continence or intermediateness conditions.
