This article discusses the incidence of psychoanalysis in the field of mental health with children and adolescents. Its first part describes the context of mental health in Brazil. After that, it presents topics of political and clinical issues in the treatment of children with mental disorders. It ends with a discussion between psychoanalysis, public health politics and pedagogy that result in principles for the clinical practices at the open mental health services for children and adolescents.
