Abstract

PIMENTEL, Déborah  and  VIEIRA, Maria Jésia. Profile and mental health of psychoanalysts. Psychê [online]. 2005, vol.9, n.15, pp. 155-166. ISSN 1415-1138.

A descriptive exploratory search is employed using the instrument of a questionnaire applied to 69 subjects, ranging over social and economic characteristics: professional investment and work conditions; sexuality, family and social life; abusive use of alcohol and drugs; general state of health; stress and psychic suffering. We verified, among other data, the women’s prevalence, among 41 to 50 years, satisfied with their personal and professional conquests, and investment in studies. However, overworking was evidenced, eliciting physical exhaustion and indications of psychic suffering manifested by psychological symptoms and behavior expressions. It is inferred that these professionals have to pay attention to the problems that affect their life quality, and to invest more in the care with themselves, since their condition of psychoanalysts doesn’t protect them of pain and suffering.
