Abstract

CELES, Luiz Augusto. Psychoanalysis is labor of making (someone) speak, and making (someone) listen. Psyche (Sao Paulo) [online]. 2005, vol.9, n.16, pp. 25-48. ISSN 1415-1138.

With the aim of characterizing psychoanalysis in its original and fundamental sense of labor of treatment, the present paper proposes to understand it as labor of “making (someone) talk, and making (someone) listen”. Such an understanding is presented as result of a conquering of analysis of the three main ways by which Freud comprehends the psychoanalytic task, namely: the overcoming of resistances, interpretation and construction. The relations of dependence and supplementarity between speaking and listening are also established, in articulation with the positions of the analyst and the patient, as a condition for psychoanalytic treatment.

Keywords : Sense of psychoanalysis; Speaking and listening in psychoanalysis; Free association; Resistances; Interpretations in analysis; Constructions in analysis; Position of the analyst.
