Abstract

MADUENHO, Alexandre Augusto Martins. Freud’s inter-subjective legacy: some considerations on the concepts of identification and object. Psyche (Sao Paulo) [online]. 2006, vol.10, n.19, pp. 13-32. ISSN 1415-1138.

In this article, we present a possible way for reading Freud’s work that contradicts the forms of interpretation that have imposed the solipsistic mark into his work. This mark is based on three major points: a) the almost exclusively intra-psychic nature of his theoretical research with a perceptible absence of what is known today as object relations in psychoanalysis; b) the Freudian drive reductionism; and c) the use made of his articles on techniques, favoring the dichotomy between the psychoanalyst and his patient, both placed out of their fields of interdependency. By proposing a different form of reading, we will use some aspects of the identification and object concepts of Freud’s work, attempting to demonstrate its inter-subjective dimension.
