QUEIROZ, Edilene Freire de. The self’s division: the Urverleugnung hypothesis (the primordial denial). Psyche (Sao Paulo) [online]. 2007, vol.11, n.21, pp. 47-62. ISSN 1415-1138.

Two themes got Freud busy in his final’s work: the notions of denial and that of self division. The Verleugnung is conceived as a denial of the sensorial perception of the absence of a female phallus, which produces, as a defense, a contrary conviction: the child denies the perception and he alleviates the castration anguish. It also appears to connote a perceptive division, indicating two contradictory impressions: one considers an objective reality and the other denies what it sees. Both co-exist provoking a cision of the self and sub-exist in the animus’ life with diverse postures, antagonist and independent. We will be working with a hypothesis of a UrVerleugnung (primordial denial) which installs a condition of the possibility of denial and the processes of subjective division.
