In the present article, we tackle the theme of femininity in psychoanalysis from the point of view of a contemporary artist’s trajectory, Cindy Sherman. Based on her references to the theme above within her works, we conclude that femininity doesn’t present itself as the place to castration, neither as the reiteration of a phallic logic, but as something beyond, giving rise to new reflections. We then approach the irony components within her work, as well as her inclination towards grotesquery, since both of them put femininity in another perspective, getting the close to the ideas of the unfamiliar and the foreigner as ways of constituting a field for subjectivity.
