Abstract

TAFURI, Maria Izabel  and  SAFRA, Gilberto. Extracting meaning, translating and interpreting: a paradigm in the psychoanalytic treatment of the autist child. Psyche (Sao Paulo) [online]. 2008, vol.12, n.23, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1415-1138.

In the 30’s, Klein described the efficiency of interpretations in little Dick’s case, establishing a classic paradigm in the psychoanalysis with autistic children: the interpretation of almost unrepresentative gestures is essential for the development of a transference relationship with the self-absorbed child. This paper seeks to discuss the implications of the Kleinian paradigm in the contemporary psychoanalytic treatment with children, based on the historical context of Dick’s analysis and the evolution of psychoanalytic thought on the treatment of autistic children. The conclusion arrived at, is that the autistic child’s psychoanalytic treatment can be thought of beyond interpretations.
