I intend to present an account of an experience of institutional analysis, articulating some reflections about how the discursive matrix of psychoanalysis can contribute to understand and analyze the institutions which "look after" children. From Lacan’s statement that, in the analytic experience, truth has the "structure of fiction" and that the veil which covers it, far from disguising it, actually makes it show "its nature of semblance", I attempt in this paper to develop a few thesis on how institutions identify themselves with a semblance of care taking or schooling which, in reality, only disguises a different truth. In the same way, theories, or the adoption of one of them, beyond making us capable of understanding the complexity of reality and its multiple facets, can paradoxically be a veil employed to hide its service to an ideology.
