This paper aims to describe the process of building the identity of “Psyco-pedagogy”, which begins with the need of professionals seeking to establish the fundamentals to assist individuals with learning difficulties. The research led us them to develop the foundation that made possible to establish interdisciplinary knowledge, thus creating a new area of study, that of “Psycho-pedagogy”. The theorical reference adopted the concept of identity as a metamorphosis as it was conceived by Antonio da Costa Ciampa (1987), and also the concept of institutionalization developed by Berger and Luckmann (1995). In this article we consider Psychology and Pedagogy are the main knowledge areas that give theorical support to “Psycho-pedagogy”. The next step was to substantiate the theorical ground that contributed to the professional qualification of the “psycopedagogues” that attended professional courses of the 70’s and 80’.
