Abstract

RODRIGUE, Ana Lisete Frontini Pereira. The barriers of paternal authority in the learning process: a psychoanalytical appr. Constr. psicopedag. [online]. 2010, vol.18, n.16, pp. 9-23. ISSN 1415-6954.

The present study aims at contributing to a reflection on the learning process, as well as the psychopedagogical clinical treatment with a psychoanalytical approach. The case study of an eight-year old child with learning difficulties was carried out using the Freudian psychoanalysis as a theoretical reference. At the presentation of the clinical material, the family situation, the complaints and the dissatisfactions that led the parents to resort to a psychopedagogical treatment as directed by the school are also reported. Upon examining the case, it was possible then to research specially the implications of the paternal authority in the process of knowledge acquisition by the patient, in particular language and mathematic reasoning. Other unfavourable aspects to the growth could also be focused, such as conflicts with the maternal figure and intolerance and disappointment, which were strong in the history of the patient at issue. Therefore, it was possible to conclude that the paternal authority, depending on how it is exercised, plus other aspects, such as the ethical construction and the internalization of laws, might cause hindrances to the development of the learning ability. In order to understand and overcome them, it is necessary to create a welcoming therapeutical environment, which facilitates the affective link and with room to develop the listening ability, not only towards the patient, but also of her parents.
