The objective of this article is to prioritize the literary genre as a reading practice in school. Through this literary genre is possible the realization of the internal dialogue established between author and reader, captured by the reading diary, a new tool for teaching and learning process of reading. The reading diary, as a school instrument, enables the student to construct, with the aid of writing skills, not only the meanings grasped, but also stimulates the development of reader´s critical thinking. It also allows sharing the various meanings found by different readers.
