Abstract

Breathing through the mouth in childhood is a habit that can bring several harms, including low school performance and growth problems. This research aims to clarify the consequences that a mouth respirator (the person breathing through the mouth) can present in the learning process, especially in reading and writing. As well as the importance of diagnosing a mouth breather in the early years of life. In order to do so, it carries out studies about the characteristics of a child who breathes through the mouth, thus allowing psychopedagogues to be able to identify such cases in their care and from there analyze if breathing can be one of the causes for the complaints of identified learning difficulties. With this knowledge, the professional will be able to better guide families and schools in the search for a specific treatment, as well as better understand the needs and difficulties of the child in psychopedagogical care.
