LIMA-SILVA, Luiz Guilherme; LEITE, Michelle de Farias  e  FARO, André. Academic procrastination and anxiety: an integrative review. Constr. psicopedag. [online]. 2022, vol.31, n.32, pp. 102-116. ISSN 1415-6954.  http://dx.doi.org/10.37388/CP2021/v31n3209.

This literature review aimed to bring together studies that pointed out the possible relationship between academic procrastination and anxiety in university students, as well as to identify instruments that measure the first construct in the Brazilian university population. The databases searched were ScienceDirect, PsycINFO, Web of Science, SciELO, PePSIC and Wiley Online Library. After reading the abstracts and applying the pre-established criteria, a total of 13 studies remained for quantitative synthesis. The results showed that academic procrastination was related to mental suffering, especially associated with anxiety, discouragement, problematic smartphone use and lower level of academic success. Regarding the identification of instruments, two were found that measure aspects related to procrastination in Brazilian university students. Among the main findings, academic procrastination was predicted by problematic smartphone use and anxiety. This phenomenon demands attention from different sectors of university and health, since procrastinators have more symptoms related to physical illnesses and stress, tending to go to the emergency room more often. Finally, it was concluded that procrastination was associated with psychological distress in university students and it was proposed to carry out longitudinal studies as well as intervention studies in order to better expose the relationship between the variables.
