Abstract

HASHIMOTO, Cecília Iacoponi. Stout field elementary school: a partnership that worked!. Constr. psicopedag. [online]. 2022, vol.32, n.33, pp. 18-29. ISSN 1415-6954.  http://dx.doi.org/10.37388/CP2022/v32n33a05.

This article aims to share the report of an experience carried out in an unprecedented way, by the School of Education at the University of Indianapolis, in the United States, from January to April of 2019. The participaters in this experience were the first-year candidates at the School of Education, two professors of Psychology of Learning and Child Development Course (one American and the other Brazilian), the principal, coordinators, and teachers at a partner school of Elementary Education, Stout Field Elementary School - where the candidates developed their internship - which attend classes up to the sixth grade, compared to the Brazilian system. The objective of this experience was to provide, for the candidates at the School of Education, the possibility of teaching a small class, during the stage, even understanding the precocity of the situation. As a partnership, there was an initial reaction and concern on the part of the American professor and the teachers and coordinators of the Elementary School since the Brazilian professor has presented the idea. After several meetings between university professors, coordinators, teachers and the principal, it was agreed that the experience would occur according to pre-defined norms, accepting that the students should receive support in their theoretical-practical classes needed at university- and reviews by the teachers at the partner school. The results were satisfactory, and the University of Indianapolis incorporated this experience at the first academic year of its teacher candidates.
