The reading of Patron Jean Maugüé’s autobiography made me remark that we do not have a complete image of him, because his book never had a Brazilian edition and because the bibliography here produced about his work and personality is dedicated mainly to the time he lived in São Paulo. In view of this fact and based on his writings (primary literature), supplemented by the secondary literature about his work and personality, this work aims to offer elements for the building of a more complete view of his unique life course, his thought and the intellectual positions he defended. So, the article consists of a synthetic description of his life history, emphasizing aspects of his intellectual education and his professional activities. Transcript passages of his autobiography are inserted in the text and by means of them we put into circulation his reflections made in 1982 that could better present him in a concrete way.
