It is by no means an easy task to write about the life of Prof. Laerte Ramos de Carvalho. Whatever attemp to describe it will always sound poor before the expressivity of his production in different sectors, and taking on account his short lifetime (he passed before completing 50 years). He demonstrated his talent precociously, and this was perceived by important personalities such as Prof. João Cruz Costa, Dr. Roldão Lopes de Barros and Julio de Mesquita Filho, among others. Philosophy, Education and with the press at his disposition, many important doors were opened to enable him to explicit his ideas. His lucidity when discussing the Brazilian educational problems provoked serious debates in favor of the public school. His rigorous scientific researches allowed him to refute, brilliantly, works by respectable masters of Philosophy. Besides being a professor, essayist, editorialist, he was also an eminence in the direction of prestigious learning institutions. Such a rich life must be preserved as, according to Garcia Marques, life doesn’t end with death, but does, yes, by oblivion. His educative presence in all the activities in which he took part deserves an attempt, even though modest, to relate his undertakings. This Academy very wisely has distinguished him with the title of Patron of Chair #8 due to his significant services on behalf of education, including in this scope the formation of disciples, who are nowadays great personalities in psychological sciences.
