The Psychological Assessment area is broad and basic, encompassing all fields of Psychology. During the decade of the 90s of the past century, the impulse toward the search for a betterment in the quality of the instruments and services offered in this area had the active participation of the Brazilian Institute of Psychological Assessment (IBAP), founded at that time.The scientific production, that aims at the rescue of different techniques and important instruments in the investigation process and psychological intervention, had a significant advance with the new laboratories installed in different Brazilian universities, dedicated to the research in psychological evaluation. In spite of the great complexity that involves the measuring of features and other psychological characteristics, many instruments and techniques have been elaborated and standardized, allowing the realization of this task effectively, in different contexts. Therefore, this study has the objective of presenting an appreciation of the history and of the present situation of the psychological evaluation in Brazil, as well as the characteristics of the tests, an important resource in this matter.
